Topic 1 DQ 1: Nursing Theory

Nursing theories provide knowledge-based concepts that determine the scope of nursing. The process of theory building is intensive and procedural. According to Smith (2019), the building block of a nursing theory is abstract ideas of phenomena in nursing or outside nursing. The concepts are then assembled to form a conceptual framework that provides a general view of what nursing and patient care should focus on.

DNP-801 A Introduction to DNP Studies

In the dynamic landscape of healthcare, with its increasing complexity, the role of nursing is pivotal in engaging with research and effectively translating it into practical applications. The Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) is designed to equip nursing professionals with the skills necessary to interpret and apply research findings to enhance nursing practice. This proficiency enables DNPs to assume diverse roles within various organizations, seamlessly integrating research into the fabric of nursing practice (American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN), 2020).

My aspiration in pursuing the DNP is rooted in the desire to contribute to the advancement of nursing knowledge in my region. Presently, my facility has only one DNP nurse. In my current capacity, I actively engage with research literature and strive to incorporate evidence into daily practice. However, this endeavor is not without challenges, particularly when it involves instigating change among medical providers. As part of my DNP training, I am eager to acquire the skills to effectively implement research findings into bedside practice. I envision becoming a valuable resource for nurses across all organizational levels who are dedicated to instigating practice change. It is crucial for nurses to stay abreast of current practices and resist complacency. The failure to do so can impact patient outcomes and potentially lead to harm if we fail to question the status quo and seek avenues for quality improvement. Through the attainment of my DNP, I aim to inspire my team to actively seek opportunities to enhance nursing practice, fostering the realization that each individual can play a pivotal role in fostering improvement and change.

On a personal level, obtaining a terminal degree has always been a goal of mine. As I embark on this program, I eagerly anticipate the opportunity to connect with peers from diverse regions, fostering the development of my research and leadership skills. Ultimately, my aim is to motivate others to contemplate advancing their degrees, firmly believing that education is indispensable for delivering patient care of the highest quality and for propelling the nursing profession forward.

Lopes Activity Tracker

Lopes Activity Tracker is used to track all direct practice immersion hours. All direct practice immersion hours are entered into Lopes Activity Tracker by the learner and submitted within 48 hours of the practice immersion experience. After the practice immersion hours have been submitted, the preceptor/mentor will verify the practice immersion hours. To submit practice immersion hours, the learner will download an electronic summary of practice immersion hours and upload it to the assignment dropbox. The practice immersion hours will be reviewed and given final approval by the faculty through the submission.

Requirements for Successful Course Completion

All DNP learners are required to have and are responsible for maintaining a mentor from DNP-815A until graduation. The mentor is expected to work with the learner on the Direct Practice Improvement (DPI) Project. The collaboration is necessary for the learner to build the Individual Success Plan (ISP), work on assignments that build the foundation for the DPI Project, and maintain frequent communications with faculty. Because this requirement must be adhered to, if a learner loses the mentor, the learner must immediately contact the Office of Field Experience to resolve the issue before the course ends. If there is no mentor, there is no mentor evaluation, and therefore practice immersi
