Make Your Resume Unique

As a new graduate, patience was tough for me. Everyone around me was getting jobs, and I wondered if I should settle for something else. The hiring process can be lengthy, but remember, you’re the one who will be working there. Be patient and avoid applying to jobs you can’t see yourself enjoying a few months down the line. It takes time and effort to hire new graduates, so it’s unfair to join and then leave after a short time. Be patient, your opportunity will come!
Follow Up
Don’t hesitate to check in on your application. It shows your interest. If you receive a rejection, ask for feedback on how you can improve as a candidate in the future. Of course, don’t become annoying and call them every day, but there’s nothing wrong with a respectful inquiry about your application status.
Step Out of Your Comfort Zone
Don’t fear applying for specialized areas. While many say to start in med-surg, it might not be the best fit for everyone. Just like you wouldn’t recommend pediatrics to someone who doesn’t like kids, don’t limit yourself to med-surg jobs if that’s not where your passion lies. Don’t be afraid to go for those specialized roles. You won’t know until you try!
Stay True to Yourself
This is crucial! During interviews, be yourself. The hiring manager understands you’re new, and they don’t expect you to have the skills of an experienced nurse. Keep this in mind to ease interview nerves. Remember, skills can be taught, but your personality can’t. The goal of the interview is for them to get to know YOU, so let your true self shine!
