The Healthcare Policy
The healthcare policy we’ve chosen is the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC) Final Rule, which is a current policy in the United States established in 2021. This policy has a few important goals. It wants to make it easier for electronic health information to work together, make sure patients can see their health information, and remove obstacles that stop health information from being shared safely between patients and healthcare providers (Moore & Clark, 2021). The policy also affects how informatics is used in healthcare, creates rules and advice for exchanging health information, and makes a program for certifying health information technology developers.

The policy affects how we put systems into place. It tells healthcare organizations they need to use certified electronic health information systems and other ways to make sure data is accurate to take part in government programs that give rewards. The certification process makes sure that systems can share information safely and well with other healthcare organizations (McGonigle & Mastrian, 2022). Another impact is that this policy will probably make older electronic health information systems better and encourage new, creative systems. These will let patients and providers easily see health information in a secure way. By putting these things into action, making it easy for patients to access their information will also make electronic health records and other platforms used by patients and healthcare providers more secure.

Impact on Clinical Care, Patient-Provider Interactions, and Workflow
With interoperable electronic health information systems, patients can see their health information from different providers. This is a big goal for healthcare organizations, which is what the ONC wants (Shull, 2019). According to Ratwani et al. (2019), this is good because it helps care coordination. Patients can also quickly and easily share health information with providers, which means fewer repeated tests and more accurate diagnoses. Healthcare providers need to follow policies that keep patient data safe and use it well to make care better. Also, the policy will make care better in terms of quality, efficiency, safety, and effectiveness.
Policies and Procedures
There will be changes in the policies and procedures in place in healthcare organizations. According to Ratwani et al. (2019), the policy will need healthcare organizations to create policies and procedures to make sure health information is private and safe. In my healthcare organization, there are already policies and procedures to keep all health information safe. To stop information from being leaked, all healthcare staff have to learn how to access and protect health information. There are rules that all healthcare providers must follow when they use health information. Patients can only see their health information through a secure system that needs them to prove who they are. Also, my healthcare organization has these important policies: one about privacy and security, one about data access, and one about how to respond to a data breach. According to Moore and Clark (2021), the privacy and security policy says how health information will be collected, stored, used, and protected, following the ONC Final Rule. The data access policy says who can use health information and how they can get to it (Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, n.d.). The breach response plan says what the organization must do during a data breach.
