At that time, I had embarked on my senior year of nursing school, with the anticipation of acquiring my BSN and RN license just around the corner. My expectations included the excitement of engaging in my senior preceptorship in my dream unit of Labor & Delivery/Postpartum. I had envisioned collaborative study sessions with my friends, eagerly ticking away the seconds until we received the results of our exit exams, and envisioning a grand celebration at our pinning ceremony. Unfortunately, many of these expectations were overturned due to the pandemic. However, that’s okay! While there wasn’t a manual for navigating nursing school during such unprecedented times, here are six invaluable lessons I learned during my final year:

Online learning was far more challenging than it appeared.
– If you thrived in an online learning environment, that was truly wonderful! Yet, for those of us who were accustomed to in-person learning, the shift to remote education had been a daunting challenge. Even though we were confined to our homes, maintaining unwavering commitment to our studies had remained crucial.

I, too, had experienced changes such as online skills assessments and virtual clinicals. Throughout this, I realized that our deans and professors had been doing their utmost to ensure we received a quality education within these unconventional circumstances.
Blue light glasses had been an indispensable asset.

Cherishing the camaraderie within my cohort had been important.
– It had undeniably been difficult not being able to interact with fellow nursing peers in person. However, within this adversity, there had been an opportunity to make the most of the situation. Reflecting on the shared experiences and fond memories from our time together had been essential. The anticipation of creating new memories post-graduation and post-NCLEX® success had been a powerful source of motivation.
For those who were current nursing students, remember that everything would eventually fall into place. You had chosen this nursing path for a reason, and external challenges should not have deterred you from your goals. There had been a world out there, filled with individuals in need of care. While the present circumstances had been far from ideal, the future had remained promising. Build a sturdy foundation of positive affirmations:
