The focus of this course is on pediatric nursing practice in the outpatient care environment of pediatrics patients of various subpopulations including patients with behavioral health issues, victims of bullying, and adolescents. Pediatric nurse practitioner students with will synthesize their knowledge of sexuality, contraception, eating disorders, LGBTQ+ youth, child abuse, mental health, and foster children. Students gain confidence in clinical experiences in a primary healthcare setting where they learn to take a subjective history, complete a thorough objective examination, make appropriate assessments with differentials, and plan both pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic therapeutic treatment regimens for well and sick pediatric patients with common acute and chronic conditions.
