How to Prepare for HESI® Entrance Exams
HESI exams need a lot of critical thinking for each question to get ready for NCLEX-style questions. Getting ready for these questions means studying, practicing, and fixing mistakes.
When it was time for me to take the second version of the fundamentals HESI, I was determined to do better. I started looking for resources outside of my usual study materials to improve my answers for nursing school questions. I found the HESI Comprehensive Review for the NCLEX-RN Examination book. Many students said online that it helped them score over 1000 (which is better than the average) on their exams. Luckily, I bought it. Here’s how I used it to get ready for my HESI exam:
I read each chapter that matched my exam.
I paid attention to the ‘HESI Hint’ boxes in the chapters.
I answered the Review questions highlighted in yellow.
After reading, I used the access code in the front cover to get online resources on Elsevier’s Evolve site. This gave me practice questions and other useful tools. I did all the online quizzes and read the explanations.
After finishing HESI V2, I felt like I did something really hard. My score went from failing to over 1000! I could confidently say that I understood the material and was ready to answer fundamental questions during the NCLEX.
